Church Business Administrator

North Shore Unitarian Church, Deerfield, Illinois

Job Description:

The Church Business Administrator has primary responsibility for the business operations of the Church, including maintenance of the financial and membership database records, payables functions, financial reporting, vendor relations and daily oversight of all Church property and facilities. He/she creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere; leads the congregation efficiently and with fiscal responsibility; coordinates activities of the Board, Council and professional staff; and facilitates a wide variety of church programs and services.

NSUC is a Unitarian-Universalist (UU) congregation in Deerfield, Illinois providing supportive fellowship and personal spiritual growth as we explore ideas, share feelings, work together, and experience beauty in music and art in our building and on our grounds. It was founded in 1954 by a group of people who were formerly members of the Evanston Unitarian Church. Director of Operations

First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego

Job Description:

The Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring the business affairs of the church are conducted in an effective and ethical manner. This position has three major areas of responsibility including Business Administration, Financial Management, and Property Management. Manages annual operating budget of $1.4 M. Supports annual and special fundraising campaigns. Develops policies in consultation with others. Oversees scheduling of property and ensures that property is maintained. Maintains all legal requirements including nonprofit, tax-exempt status. Responsibilities also include supervision of administrative and facilities staff.

Qualifications:

  • Preference for prior large church experience or 5 + years of nonprofit Executive or Operations Director experience. Bachelor’s degree in business, property management, or equivalent work experience. Prior supervisorial experience required. Experience with development and management of annual operating budgets. Fundraising experience preferred. Property or facility management experience a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must be comfortable speaking in a public forum.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required. Experience with eTapestry or other donor database a plus.

Business Administrator

The Community Church of New York Unitarian Universalist

The Community Church of New York Unitarian Universalist is seeking a Business Administrator to manage the administrative, business, and financial matters of the congregation with a high degree of independence, fiscal responsibility, and strategic planning and vision.

Founded in 1825, this midtown Manhattan Unitarian Universalist congregation of 300+ members serving the mission “to grow as a caring, justice-making, anti-racist, diverse, spiritual community” has a long, proud history in social activism and environmentalism. Has been intertwined with the ACLU, NAACP, Mohandas Gandhi and pro-peace work.

This position manages and supervises all administrative and facilities personnel, currently seven full time staff. We have a multi-million dollar annual budget funded largely through a significant endowment and real estate investments, including an on-site 21-unit guesthouse/residential rental. Reports directly to and works with the board of trustees at a strategic level to maximize the use of all our assets to further our mission.

The Business Administrator requires business experience with a degree in business administration (MBA or similar) with at least five years of financial management, as well as significant managerial, human resources and congregational systems expertise with professional employment in a congregational religious organization. Must be technology savvy with real estate and property management experience desirable.

Executive Director

Acting Parish Manager (Congregational Administrator)

Position will be valid through summer 2009, when it will either be made permanent or a new position is filled, to coincide with a new settled minister.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Ensure thoughtful and efficient stewardship of physical, financial, informational, and human resources. Position reports to the Interim Minister.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Maintain a broad variety of functions for the smooth operation of the church program with minimal guidance
  • Act as the key point of contact for building users and community
  • Manage office procedures, facilities, schedules, purchasing, preparation of budgets, and bookkeeping services
  • Maintain the church calendar, schedule the use of facilities, and resolve scheduling conflicts
  • Provide Sunday morning support
  • Supervise other administrative staff, sextons, and outside contractors
  • Gather and disseminate information internally and externally
  • Be knowledgeable about the organization and its policies
  • Record revenue, manage accounts payable, prepare payroll, and provide reports

Qualifications
It is understood and expected that the person filling this position will:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree
  • Have a minimum of three years similar work experience in a supervisory role
  • Be experienced with accounting concepts (experience with QuickBooks a plus)
  • Be skilled in office applications for computers, including relational database management. Competence in Excel and Filemaker Pro in a Mac environment a plus
  • Use their own initiative and skills efficiently and effectively with diplomacy, compassion, and patience
  • Be a constructive and committed team member
  • Interact with and supervise administrative and custodial staff
  • Be responsible and self-motivating, guided by UU principles and beliefs
  • Have the ability to multitask, maintaining accuracy and personal integrity

Interim Director of Finance and Administration

All Souls Church, Unitarian (Washington, DC) seeks an interim Director of Finance and Administration (DFA). All Souls is a dynamic, progressive and diverse church of over 900 members in the heart of the nation’s capital. The interim DFA manages the day-to-day financial and administrative operations of our congregation, including: budgeting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, office systems, IT operations, personnel management, and facilities management. The DFA supervises a staff of 6 and works collaboratively with other staff and lay leaders. The term of employment is approximately seven months, from August 1, 2008 through approximately March 1, 2009. Annualized compensation is $70,000 plus benefits.
